Hi,
I did an eglu course at your farm last year and I promised to come back this spring to get some chickens.

With this in mind, I am about to set up a coop and run on my allotment and I have a 2m wide strip of land that I have left for this purpose. Assuming I buy about 6 chickens ( this seems to be the norm on the allotments), how long should I make the run?

One of the allotmenteers who has apparently kept chickens all his life thinks it need only be about 2m long - (i.e. 2m x 2m total area ), but this doesnt seem very big to me.

Also, I was going to sow some grass seed in the pen, but the local expert says this is pointless as the chickens will kill it all off in no time.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hiya

The grass... I agree

Space.. the more the better, 2m x 2m is only 12/ 13 foot ish not very big for 6.

My dad has a 22 foot square pen for 5 and they are OK in that, but I wouldnt like to see them in anything smaller.
