Hello - interested in shows

Postby Muddiwarx on Sat May 03, 2008 10:38 pm

Hi :)

I just joined as I am interested in finding out more about the exhibiting of poultry with an aim of having a bird or two of appropriate quality :)

Am new to chickens - have had our 3 hybrids for about 5 weeks now and absolutely adore them - they are taking over - our garden and now moving into the lounge when they can :)

I currently show and judge dogs at various levels and recently became involved in showing fancy rats - with surprising success and now am interested in learning more about exhibiting hens ...

Have no clue about any of it though ...

What breed would be appropriate for a newcomer - in terms of easy maintainance and nice personality?

How often are there shows and do certain breeds have more classes or do they all go in the same class ..

We live near Manchester and I regularly see chickens at country fairs etc so assume there are a fair few shows round my way and am willing to travel - travel all over the UK with the dogs ......

any advice gladly taken :)

Hi

To be honest I think its down to personal preference... Do you want fluffy ones ..soft or hard feathered ..game birds... Silkies..

Best thing to do is have a look at some breeds at the shows?
