Black Rocks

Postby jeff3004 on Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:08 pm

I have 5 Black Rocks which I bought over 4 weeks ago. They were supposed to be Point of Lay however I have not had any eggs yet. I am unsure what age they are although they are only just forming their combs.
They are all feeding well on a layers mash and the odd treat as well as grass. Any idea when I should be getting eggs

Hi Jeff

We feed a mixed corn until our birds start to lay then introduce them to a layers pellet/ mash, we slowly increase the pellet & decrease the corn & do this over a few weeks.

POL is said to be 20- 21 weeks although birds can lay from 17 weeks onwards.
By 30 weeks I would expect your birds to be in lay.

Hi Jeff,
my chooks are 25 weeks old on sunday and no eggs yet. We know it will happen soon as we're noticing afew changes now. Our Sussex is getting redder in the face and our magpie is getting wider pelvic bones. :D The blackrock and warren are still pretty young though.
